OUR BOOKS >>>
Our books are carefully chosen for their appeal to struggling readers. Four lessons and reading prompts have been designed for each book and can be inserted into our environments. Students find each reading prompt and answer a question correctly in order to launch lessons. Each book comes with a virtual and physical bookmark, so students can record where they are in the novel and the lessons they have completed.

Ann and Seamus
by Kevin Major
Ann and Seamus is an award winning Canadian piece of historical fiction written in the form of an epic poem. We’ve selected this book because it introduces students to a different type of writing and allows easy access for all levels of readers. The poetic language gives the advanced reader the pleasure of language at play, while the illustrations and easy narrative engage the reluctant reader. The themes of young love, leaving home and the uncertainty of the future will promote lively discussion.

Far North
by Will Hobbs
Far North is a novel written by an American author, but set in one of Canada’s “wonders”, the Nahanni River. This book provides young readers with a classic adventure story. The story is perfect for a summer read, carrying young readers to an exotic location and allowing their imaginations to build a world of dangerous adventure. The themes of aboriginal spirituality and the bonds of brothers across cultures will stimulate dialogue on our discussion boards.
